My green washing example is of Huggies pure and natural diapers. Green-washing is an example of a company or business that advertises there products as being environmentally friendly to encourage customers that their products are good or safe for the environment. Usually green-washing is presented to the public through a colorful picture sometimes containing nature or positive messages. In Huggies advertising they have a smiling baby, sitting on some green grass, with a healthy tree leaves in the background. They also include their star ingredients in the diaper. Huggies is advertising that their diapers are made with organic cotton, aloe and vitamin E and hypoallergenic! This all sounds great but to what extend are their diapers made with these ingredients, what are they not including about their product. Many companies have made their products biodegradable because landfills are to full. This is a green washing example because the company is clearly pushing natural, organic, friendly ingredients to sell the diapers but are not informing their consumers enough. My suggesting to make this product less green-washed and more green is to carry through with what they are advertising, if they are going to use organic cotton make sure it is certified, otherwise it is just words. I'd say try them yourself and see if they work for you as they are super soft! I loved these, however my pocket book did not.
